Hot and Itchy Days

As I type this it's a sultry 94 here in the Georgia countryside.  Not a drop of smog but enough humidity to choke a horse--or the woman sporting a bad case of poison sumac.

Down here in Georgia, I'm scratching and sweating my way through the dog days of summer.

Days are organized around the thermometer.  Trips to the outdoors are done before 10 a.m., or after 6 p.m.  The middle of the days are spent inside out of the heat.

You see, in the summer eating ice cream is okay, and taking a few hours off from your desk to bob about in a friend's pool is also permitted.

My husband once remarked that southerners have to slow down in the summer to survive the heat.  Nonsense, I thought.

But guess what?  He was right.  Slowing down is the only way to survive a Georgia summer. That and eating ice cream.
